You should check your school Gmail account at least once per day.
You can personalise your emails by adding a message signature.
What makes a good email message?
Write a meaningful subject line. The reader should have a good idea about what the message is about before they open it.
Identify yourself clearly. Be kind. Show respect.
Proofread before you send.
Don't assume that your message will be private - it's easy to forward emails to those not intended to receive it (just ask Mr Clark).
Choose between formal and informal situations. Use language and style appropriate to to the person(s) you are writing to. Perhaps not "Chur aw Sir, howzit LOL?"...
Task: Write a short email to your teacher.
To: your teacher's school email address (e.g. f.lastname@tbc.school.nz)
Subject: 'Boot Camp - Productivity'
In the body of your email you should:
introduce yourself ("Hi Mr Teacher, it's Steve here.")
share a tip or trick you already know to be more productive like a keyboard short cut ("Did you know that Ctrl + T keys on a Chromebook opens a new tab?" or "Using voice typing is quicker than finger typing")
share one thing that you think will benefit your learning by using your device at TBC ("I'm looking forward to using my device at TBC as I won't lose any more paper worksheets!")
Sign off appropriately ("Regards, Brett"; "Ngā mihi, Murray")

Your Google Calendar is going to be an essential tool to keep you up-to-date with school activities and events, as well as personal to-dos, events and reminders. Have your calendar tab open all the time and check it at least once-a-day.
1) Open Google Chrome and make sure you are logged in to your TBC Google account.
2) Click on the TBC Term Diary link then click on the +Google icon (bottom right corner) to add this to your own calendar.
3) Log in to the school portal (www.tbc.school.nz) using your username and password. Scroll to the bottom and click on the 'My Timetable option'. Copy the URL for your calendar, go to Google Calendar ➡️ Add a calendar ➡️ by URL, ➡️ paste in the link and delete the .ics at the end. Your school timetable will now be a 'live' calendar meaning any changes will automatically update.
4) You will also have a calendar for each Google Classroom you have enrolled in. You should assign each of these calendars a different colour so they are easy to distinguish from each other.

Explore the different views on your calendar (Day, Week, Month, 4 Days, Agenda). Think about how each view is useful. Which will be best for keeping up to date with what's happening in TBC?
Explore how to create a new personal event to your calendar, for a specific date and time (eg. Mum's birthday) and set a notification for the event.
Explore using the KEEP and TASKS tools in Calendar to create notes and a 'To Do' list.
